Evaluation Q.3
E.3 How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Evaluation Q.2
E.2 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
As you have seen in the video and the ancillary work, there is a clear synergy link in my product. The theme of badgers is practically shoved in your face from the beginning. But I can almost promise you the next time you see anything badger related you'll think of my video and thats exactly how synergy works. Other than the badger theme there is also a synergy link in the colours I used. Following the badger theme I have tried to use the black and white colours as much as possible in the video and the ancillary so that they have more of a link, we wear the black and white suits, the badger masks are black and white and the ancillary, as seen above in the "thinglink" is predominantly black and white with a hint of red to make it stand out more.

I think the audience will be able to easily recognise us because we have a very strong brand image. We have created characters for ourselves from this badger theme and I think its a very strong idea because as I mentioned before it is a unique and very creative idea that will stick in your mind because of the synergy links that are used through out.
I'm so confident in the synergy links used in the video and ancillary that I think even audiences that are not from the target audience or that are not interested in this type of music at all will recognise us as a band.
But most importantly I do think that the target audience would be attracted to them for exactly the same reasons but obviously a lot more powerful as the target audience will actually have an interest in the genre. From the perspective of someone who is a massive fan of the genre this type of concept for a band ticks all the boxes for me. People love creativity, mystery, craziness and something bold and different as appose to the generic or more classic style of most bands. In my opinion a theme is a brilliant idea that can attract a lot of people from your own target audience but also people that aren't part of the target audience.
To make things easier I've used the same band as before for an example of well constructed synergy in use. Again, Daft Punk use their futuristic/robotic theme in their advertisement as well as their album cover. I think this is a great example of a synergy link that is similar to mine in respect to theme and style. There is a strong theme much like my own, dark colours contrasted with bright ones, a similar type of font, the sense of mystery as to who the artists are, and a fun creative style. Most of these things are seen a lot for synergy use in products of this genre but there is that same sense of uniqueness that I get from daft punk that I can relate to my own enough to call my product its own developed concept.

Evaluation Q.1
E.1. In what ways does your media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
I think my media products develop and use the forms and conventions of real media products as my products follow the conventions of typical products from my chosen genre. My genre being indie/rock I tried to stick to those conventions. I used dark colours for my digipak and advertisement and gave it an aggressive tone. I also tried to follow the same pattern in the music video by being moody and trying to follow a dark theme behind the comical idea of the badgers.
The Kaiser Chiefs are a indie/rock band that follow similar methods of creating a sense of deep meaningfulness alongside an element of comedy so it doesn't come across as too heavy.
It is videos like this from this band and others in this genre that influenced my video. It's strange and weirdly creative yet gives an impression of something more meaningful. It's in this that I think I have mostly used and developed forms and conventions. Because I have taken this concept and truly made it my own in not just my video but my ancillary work too:
A similar band to Kaiser chiefs are the Kings of Leon whom have a similar looking Album cover to my own. It has the dark moody colours and the expressionless faces that portray that rock vibe that is seen a lot in bands of this genre. Again this is where I would say I had used and developed the ideas from conventions of this genre by taking a concept that I know appeals to the same target audience as my own and developing it into my own unique creation.

Do's and Dont's of design production work
What to DO when designing ancillary work:
The fonts you use in the ancillary work have match the style of the album, use 2 at most and don't use a ridiculous font just because you like it. The sizing and layout of the writing is very important, you want the font to stand out but not overwhelm the whole album cover.
The colour scheme is very important, using over 3 colours might become a bit too much, also don't just choose random colours, use colours that go with the genre and will work well when used together like red, white and blue. Not yellow, green and pink.
The most vital part of the ancillary work is having good photographs. That doesn't mean they have to be model worthy photographs, just make sure that they are in focus and clearly visible. Use close up shots and photos that show the artists well as appose to photos that you like or screen grabs from the actual video, it stands out a lot and makes it look tacky.
To make the album look legitimate you need to make sure you add a barcode, date, copyright info, title of the album, the artists name, record company, record logo, website and artist website.
DONT do this:
Go mad on photoshop because you know how to use the programme and all its effects. Do what is appropriate and what fits the genre. The best thing to do is keep it simple but with a unique style.
You should take images that are the correct size and resolution to begin with. Do not free transform your image to make it in line with the panel. It makes the image look silly and ruins the album.
One of the worst things you could do is cover up the artists face. The artist is the most important part of the album, its meant to show him or her or them off, so covering the artist up with text or another image won't make your album look very good.
The key is to make your album not how you want it to be but how the genre needs it to be.

importance of digipaks
Digipaks arent just what carry the CD. They are also a marketing tool used to promote the artist, using the artist themselves as a feature and a selling point
Ancillary pitch
A dynamic representation of the rock genre.
there will be 2 outer panels and 2 inner panels, including a booklet of photos and lyrics to the songs
where advertisement will be placed?
I got some ideas from the shinedown album: Amaryllis and the booklet idea came from an album by Saliva

location for photos
I will be taking the photos in my house with a blank wall as the background as I plan to photoshop the background of the images to follow the colour scheme of the album.
costume for album photos
We will be wearing the same costumes as the music video for the album photos as to create a synergy link between the video and the album. Also to show the audience who we are its less confusing if we are all wearing the same clothes as we did in the music video
